Brown rice and oatmeal. YUP !

We love our little rice cooker. There are 3 keys to successfully cooking brown rice and oatmeal. #1: Add more water than you're cooking on the stovetop. #2: First add some olive oil and #3 to the mixture. If the rice cooker shuts off, IMMEDIATELY remove the insert and stir. You can cover it again and it will stay hot for a while. I don't think I use more than 1/4 teaspoon of olive oil, which we don't taste at all. We use regular measuring cups, not the cup that came with the stove. BROWN RICE (Serves 2): 3/4 cup pre-washed brown rice and 2 cups water. About 42-48 minutes. Oatmeal (1 large or 2 small servings): 2/3 cup oatmeal and 1-1/2 cup water, about 14-16 minutes. (We use old-fashioned oatmeal.) Measure how long it takes you to know when to get back in the kitchen! Just press the ON button to turn it on. We push it forward so it doesn't end up under the cabinet as it floats a bit. At the end, the oven turns off with a click. That's all. So you have to stay in the kitchen towards the end. One time I ignored it for 5 minutes and the bottom 1/6"-1/8" of the brown rice became crispy. I mashed it up with a plastic spoon and mixed it up and it was fine, but I prefer not to. The cooker comes with an inner pot, measuring cup, plastic spoon, instruction manual and recipe booklet. The recipe book will probably assume you're using your measuring cup, but all of the recipes refer to a "warm" setting, which this eco-cooker doesn't have. We only use a plastic spoon to avoid scratching the non-stick coating of the pan. Cleaning becomes child's play if you fill the inner bowl with soapy water after emptying. I did notice a few drops of water in the jar lid after washing, but I shook it and checked the next morning and it was gone, but I didn't submerge the jar lid because of it. We use the stove 4-6 times a week so I hope it lasts a long time. But so far so good!
