Not quite 2600 mAh - Test Results

There are two things you need to know about rechargeable batteries: how much energy they store (capacity) and how quickly they lose energy just by sitting on the shelf (self-discharge). As noted by other buyers, the stated capacity of the Tenergy 2600 batteries is grossly exaggerated. I bought four dozen of these and tested them in groups of four with my Powerex MH-C900 analyzer/charger. After running in and 4 charging cycles of the batteries, none of them reached a capacity of even 2000 mAh. Most of them average between 1800 and 1900 mAh. Didn't have time to leave them on the shelf and then measure the discharge, but they aren't advertised as LSD (Low Self Discharge) like the Tenergy Centura, so I suspect they're probably discharging. fast enough. I've read that 2% a day is not uncommon. I'm going to load up a bunch of these so-called 2600s and wait a few weeks to see how much they've lost. I will report my findings. I use rechargeable batteries in my 8 time lapse cameras, which require a total of 80 AA batteries. These cameras will run unattended for several weeks unless they run out of power. Since they're 2 hours from home and I'm not around to change the batteries when they run out, I'm looking for the largest capacity I can find. These Tenergy batteries, which have a capacity of around 1800 mAh, are just not suitable for my application. If your application is such that battery drain is not a major concern and you can easily swap out the batteries when it is, then these Tenergy batteries may be for you. While these batteries can still be good value for money, I don't like dealing with people lying about their product when you don't need a lot of capacity. You can't help but know that their batteries are a lot smaller than advertised. If you want a cheaper battery, I recommend the Energizer 2300, which I also tested and which consistently exceeds 2200 mAh. Last comment. The Powerex MH-C900 does an excellent job of restoring "bad" batteries. I've come across about half a dozen (all Tenergy) that other chargers rated as bad. The MH-C900 restored them all, even the one that got hot on other chargers! I had La Crosse BC1000 for a few weeks before my dog ate it. I prefer MH-C900.

Pros
  • No Memory Effect - With no memory effect in our AA NiMH batteries, you can charge your batteries anytime. Even when they are almost or partially used, you don't have to worry about long-term memory effects and you get the full capacity with every use.
Cons
  • Ugly packaging
