When I opened the package, there was a smell of peppermint. The package wasn't wet or oily, so I assumed it had been treated with peppermint oil. I started putting it up and everyone could smell it. Then I put it on the cradle and my room was filled with the scent of mint. As someone who has worked with essential oils, they can be very potent and give you a headache. I was able to test it out before taking it apart to clean and it seems to work great and is quite long lasting, just a very strong peppermint smell that gave me a headache. As I type this soaks the dawn and hot water. Without the mint smell it would be 5 stars.
