Review on πŸ’ͺ Enhanced Replacement Handle for Vaughan 84 748: Superior Durability and Performance by Vedavyas Fleming

Quality replacement wooden handle

I bought this handle to replace a broken 4 lb steel hammer handle I always had. I started by drilling a broken handle out of an old head. This new grip didn't fit because the hole in my old head was smaller and rounder. The hammer shank is probably designed for a specific head. In my case I used a bandsaw to quickly cut a piece of wood from each side of the replacement handle to fit snugly in the hammer head. You need a tight fit, so you need to drive the handle into your old head. You can also use a jigsaw, hacksaw, or saber saw to cut the head. A belt sander is useful for small adjustments and mold cleaning, but is not required. After hammering the handle into the head and cutting off the handle sticking out of the head, I cut a large wooden wedge to fit the hole in my old hammer head and hammered it in. This will tighten the handle in the old head. Then I drove two steel wedges into the wooden wedge for an even tighter fit. Very tight fit and finish flush with the hammer head. The quality of the grip seems excellent. Vaughan included a large wooden wedge and 2 smaller steel wedges. I think this will do about 95% of the handle replacements you need to make. If for some reason you had an oversized head or cut the grip too wide you may need to add extra wedges - these are easy to find at Revain. For the price I think this is a great way to extend the life of an old hammer. The cheapest 4 pound hammer at the big store is over $20 so buying a new handle was a steal for me. Installation only took about 20 minutes. So, I think if you want to extend the life of old things, buy this replacement pen. When in a hurry, but new.
