great when it worked but suffers from numerous bugs

First and only weekend with Garmin Catalyst, it worked great for the first two sessions of the track. When I started the car for the 3rd session, I got the error message "Training not available". I checked all the connections - they were solid, so I tried turning the device off - the shutdown message kept spinning for 40 minutes before it finally restarted. I missed any video or lap times throughout the session. During the rest of the weekend I accidentally got a "camera not connected" message, which it was. I turned the device off and on again. and it worked fine. Got the same error again so I disconnected and reconnected everything: again "the device is not connected to the camera. Turned it back on. everything worked fine. I found it to be related. In many seasons of SCCA Club Racing I have used 2 different AiM MXL hardwired to my Spec Miata and a T3 Mustang with 0 errors - never I have used the AiM Solo2DL for 2 race weekends with great success I know it's not the same as AiM , but I've never been to COTA so I liked the idea of live coaching. Coaching can't be heard with open windows. I tried pairing the Catalyst with my iPhone and then connecting my AirPods on my phone, but it never worked.I have returned this device but will most likely buy another one hoping my first one was just a lemon. As I still have 2 new tracks to learn I am using I use the Catalyst in my road car for HPDE. If I was racing or HPDE on known tracks I would probably use the AiM system in combination with the h APEX Pro.

Pros
  • good to use
Cons
  • old
