No difference in water

We have well water. I poured it over my garden hose today to feed my cats and dogs and literally no difference in smell or anything. There is iron in our water and this product should be good for iron and this is no exception! It is very light, as if there was nothing in it! When I plugged it in the black didn't come out so I'm not sure what's inside but it looks like absolutely nothing to me!
