Small enough to fit in the car or lap pocket on the go, but big enough to color in large pictures. The packaging also resembles a "book" made of cardboard. There are individual coloring pages on the back and a small storage space on the front for the 4 mini markers that come with the kit. It's a nice idea to be honest but I wouldn't count on it to withstand heavy use and I don't think that was the intention - I think it was exactly that. After a trip in 7 States we brought it home and my 5 year old continued to use it. The pens are now in her pencil case, but the box is still where she keeps her coloring sheet. I think it's GREAT for vacations and road trips due to the size.
