Installed in my propane forge. I've read other reviews, particularly ones that melt the wire end of the probe, so I made a heat sink out of firebrick before installing it. Since it was long enough that it actually had to be removed a few inches from the surface, I welded a large washer to the stretched spring section to hold it in place. This worked great, and even when the forge reached 1900F, the probe's wire end was still only about 100F. Besides, it works great. I've run it several times with temperatures as high as 2050. The tip of the probe (it's about 1.5 inches into the forge cave) glows bright red, but there doesn't seem to be any damage. The temperature is very stable and accurate (I have an analog meter so it's not very accurate). I think for the money this is about perfect. ----- Update in a few months. burned. Totally useless. My last lived 7 years. It's only 4 months old
