Review on Sony E 55-210mm F4.5-6.3 OSS Lens for Sony E-Mount Cameras: A Versatile Silver Lens for Superior Performance by Busaba Lek ᠌

The product did not disappoint, the quality pleases.

This lens was purchased for the Sony ILCE-QX1 smartograph, as a telephoto lens, to the company by 16-50 and 55F18 to close the focal lengths above 50mm. I took it from my hands for 6tr. I don't use it very often, because the QX1 becomes very bulky with it, but it helped me out a few times when it was not possible to get closer. Compared it with Canon EF-M 55-200, Canon EF-S 55-250, Canon EF 70-200 F4 + x1.4 and Tokina 80-400, Tamron 28-300 VC. (The choice of lenses is because I have them in stock) I was wondering how they differ optically and in ease of use. In addition to the test worlds, I shot a little outdoors and indoors, both stationary and moving objects. In short, it turned out that the Sony SEL 55210 gives a fairly clear and contrasting picture at the far end, and not only in the center, but also along the edges. For its price of 6tr, this is the same successful lens as the EF-S 55-250, which cannot be said for the more compact but expensive EF-M 55-200, which I had to order from Japan due to being out of stock in Hong Kong. It is better not to remove the lens hood, it protects the lens well from shock. Of the minuses of 55-210, focusing is a little slow, but no worse than similar lenses Sony 16-50, 50F18 and completely silent. The stabilizer works well and is very helpful at the far end. It is foolish to advise or not to advise this lens, because if the camera is compact, then there are no alternatives. The lens is definitely worth the money.

Pros
  • Stabilized, lightweight, inexpensive, unparalleled in its category, lens hood included.
Cons
  • Too big compared to analogues from other systems
