I was very nervous to use this product but somehow got a deep scratch on my stainless steel stove top and also a few minor scratches on my stainless steel fridge. This product took care of fridge scratches almost perfectly and while others have mentioned that the entire surface needs to be treated to get a uniform look, I found that wrong. However, what I did do was use a VERY light touch and "blend" the scratched area. Looks great and is like new now. As for the top of my ruler, the scratch was too deep to remove completely and I ended up touching up the satin finish a bit. However, now the scratch is so minor that you would never see it unless you knew it was there. Also, there is enough polishing paste and polishing cream left over so I can use this set again in the future when I get new scratches on my stainless steel appliances. I wouldn't say this kit will fix every scratch and problem, but overall I'm happy with it. I think the key is to take a very light, gentle approach and be patient when using it.
