5.1 VIA SPDIF-OUT, FINALLY!

Thank you for this sound card. I have a nice 5.1 surround sound system that I bought about 8 months ago. Only requires surround sound input via HDMI or SPDIF (optical). Unfortunately, my graphics card does not transmit surround sound via hdmi (only 2ch/stereo) and my mobile device's SPDIF output does not support it either. After a lot of work, research and even trying other sound cards I finally got this one. It took me about 20 minutes to figure out how to get this to work. (In the "Sound" settings in Windows 10 under "Playback" you should change the default audio output device to the "speaker" setting of the sound card, but actually the "spdif-out" device configure the sound card. Then download the Sound Blaster Command program. Then launch the program and in the "Encoder" section select "Dolby Audio" or "DTS" depending on what your surround sound system supports. Go then go to the "Play" section of the Command program and test it. If everything is done correctly you should now be getting 5.1.) When I finally got it to work I turned on my game (Outriders) which I unsuccessfully tried turning on surround sound and BOOM, I could spin my character and hear different noises spinning around me like it should. After so much frustration trying to get 5.1 via SPDIF-Out/Optical I was so happy I finally got it done. The cost was higher than I would have liked but much better than all my other options. I couldn't use my beautiful and expensive surround sound system and wasted it. Or I would have to buy a second surround sound system that uses analog audio like most sound cards. So if you find yourself in the same situation as me, this card will get the job done.

Pros
  • Finally bought
Cons
  • Expensive
