Review on πŸ’½ Fantom Drives 2TB External Hard Drive - 32MB Cache - USB 3.0/3.1 Gen 1 Aluminum Case - Compatible with Mac, Windows, PS4, Xbox - GF3B2000U32 by Terry West

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A beautiful body, but a fatal flaw.

I was very pleased with this drive and the beautiful (and in a good way heavy) case is well worth the extra price compared to what Western Digital and Seagate offer. loud disc. And absolutely annoying. It's not consistently loud, but every time I open a file I hear a judder and feel my desk vibrate for several minutes. The sound is not defective (fortunately there is a 3-year guarantee), but it is not quiet either. Worse, sometimes it produces a very high pitched sound. Constant. Up to several hours. It's terrible. This also happens when the drive is idle (scrolling down), which leads me to believe it's something with power. It's not fancy though, comes with a long warranty, looks good and arrived as advertised (minus the silence). For those interested, it works great with Linux. My Disk Utility says the hard drive OEM is Toshiba. In other words, while the case was made by Fantom, the hard drive inside was made by Toshiba, not Samsung, Seagate, or WD like you might find in other Fantom cases. This can be a source of noise, but Toshiba drives are rated fairly well here on Revain. I would recommend and warn a friend about this product.
