Hanging this on a rafter a few feet from your garage door opener is a great idea as you'll likely have an outlet with an unused outlet. It also frees up one of your most accessible electrical outlets (I used to unplug my dryer to plug in an extension cord, but now I don't need it). In addition, the lanyard hangs to a height that can be reached over most vehicles and features a grip-style triple rubber piece that makes it easy to pull out the lanyard. This is a very innovative and practical idea. The reel is solid steel construction and hangs from a bracket that allows it to swing. It is easy to install with 2 screws. The 30 foot electric cord easily reaches every part of the large garage and is about halfway to my driveway. The only downside for me is that I wish it were twice the length of the front lawn; To do this I need to add an extension. The cable locks into extension with a ratchet type mechanism that is released when you pull on the cable and then allow it to retract. It behaves like any spring loaded winder but I guess it's fed somehow. Didn't try unplugging to see if it still winds up. Anyway, it works pretty well.
