Review on ๐Ÿƒ Salomon Speedcross 5 GTX Men's Trail Running Shoes by Jacob Brasic

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great trail/winter/wet running shoes

I needed to replace my old Brooks Ghost GTX winter shoes and after a lot of research and reading reviews I decided on the new Ghost GTX, La Sportiva Kaptiva GTX , ASICS GT-2000 8 G-TX and Speedcross 5 GTX. Ghost and Asics were rejected as they were regular gore-tex lined shoes that didn't have added weather protection on the toe or sides and I don't think the gore-tex will hold up with constant use. unprotected. Inside La Sportiva there was a wading sock-like system that might make sense for dirt control, but was too tight for winter use. This led to Speedcross and after many miles of snow/trail/wet running I was very happy. As a pronator, I was concerned about a neutral rather than supportive design, but had no issues. The aggressive outsole with wide lugs really impresses and inspires confidence on trails and snow and surprisingly doesn't show up when running on the road (although I'm not sure how well they'll wear). The waterproofing is the best I've seen for a GTX running or trail running shoe. The overall design, material and finish of the DWR wicks water like crazy and I have no hesitation in running through inch deep slush (in running gaiters). As a more trail-oriented shoe, I was surprised at how light it is and that there's really no noticeable reduction in weight or flex when running on the road, while still feeling supportive on the trail. With all these positives, I'm fine as long as the sole wears out early (no proof yet) as long as there's another pair when I need it.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Not everything fits
