VERY cool waffle iron!

New favorite kitchen appliance! My first use was for a 'breakfast to dinner' type evening. I took a bag of gluten free pancake and waffle mix and mixed up a small batch. Unlike some other pancake and waffle mixes, this mix doesn't require whipping the egg whites until stiff and then adding the whipped egg whites to the batter. This technique makes absolutely light and fluffy waffles. Since my mix didn't require it, I wasn't expecting fantastic results. Only "breakfast for dinner", only "good enough" results. I poured a test waffle into the waffle maker without adding any oil or cooking spray. I only waited a few minutes (think three minutes) and when the lights went out the maker was "warmed up" and ready to go. As my test waffle cooked, steam escaped from the side and front where the handle is. version) and in a device that has never been used. Every time I checked the waffles, the waffles looked crispy on the outside but pale creamy yellow. Once the steam was reduced to a small amount, I unlocked the waffle maker (using the handle end of the fork because steam was escaping) and used the working end of the fork to pierce it and pull it out of the waffle maker. The first waffle turned out perfect. I used 1/4 cup batter as directed and the waffle was full and lightly browned; some crunch on the outside with cake as on the inside. For a first waffle it was perfection! I then made a batch of four waffles. I poured 1/4 cup into the center of each waffle pan and got a little messy. I figured everything would be fine and it would just flow into the shape next to it. And so it happened. And as the waffle batter cooked, the top of the waffle iron "exploded" and I heard it "pop"! Some of the batter started spilling out of the side I "kinda" overstuffed. All in all, the overflowing waffle iron just gave the dreaded "Plop!" as the steam died down. toasted squares for melting butter and delicious maple syrup. Pinterest is full of ways to use a waffle iron these days. I heard you can use potatoes and hash browns. I've also seen that waffle batter can replace other flavored batters like muffin batter, brownie batter, and the like! All of the first traditional "waffle batter" waffles came out perfect. Once baked, they were even easier to clean. Non-stick surface was accurate as stated on the label and even after blowing clean inside and out with ease.** I mentioned this before but did NOT mark this with 'NO' It's getting hot somewhere The instructions for the waffle maker state that during the Baking steam comes out and lasts until the waffle is done. The instructions don't say where the steam comes out. But it does say that the waffle maker steams throughout the process. In my experience with the waffle maker, steam came out near the center the front/handle side and also in the middle of the side where my only waffle was. Steam can go anywhere. Here's how it prepares. To open the waffle maker, press press the latch, which will release the top of the waffle maker. The lock is in the center of the front where the handle is located. You have to open and close the waffle iron with the handle. You have to press the lock button to open the waffle maker to check and take out the finished waffles. Since the steam exits the same place as the lock and handle, I used the long end of the utensil I was going to use to pull out the waffles. I didn't see steam as either a problem or a disadvantage. The steam situation is the way it works. However, please be careful and think first! I really like the waffle iron. It works amazing! RECOMMENDED!
