I think this is a really good frame for the price. Oddly enough, unless you're willing to pay a lot more, it's very difficult to find a plain classic wooden frame. I recently bought a pair of 16x20's for a show and got lots of compliments on them. People thought it was a real tree. They go well with some maple frames I made for the show a few years ago. I ordered another pair to have on hand. Here's how I adapted it to my needs: 1. I removed the shadow insert, painted the inside of the insert linen white to match the matte card stock, and was then able to place it in front of the mat. ("Glass, inset, mat and work of art” versus frame construction "Glass, mat, inset, work of art”) I prefer this look. You also have the option to "levitate" the mounted artwork instead of using a mat.2. I wasn't happy with the suspension so I drilled holes in the frame itself and installed D-rings and wire. Be sure to pre-drill. I tried just screwing it in, but since these frames aren't solid wood, the frame material split and buckled. As an artist, these jigs were easy and I'm very happy with the results, especially considering the price.
