Not bad BUT: Antennas

So, I originally bought this because I wanted to move my radio to my molle vest and wanted a shorter antenna so it doesn't stick out so close to my face. You have to pay close attention to that and what it is capable of. We have a digital system that works extremely well with it. The standard, I would call it the 8 inch antenna that we have, supports VHF. The short stub antenna is NOT VHF compatible. What this means for us is that while we can communicate normally with our own agency (Municipal Police), when we need to communicate with our county MPs, we CANNOT because they use the VHF system. This would mean that our portable devices would not be able to communicate with the county. We don't communicate with them every day, it's actually extremely rare, but it's one of those things that you need one day but won't have because of the short antenna. Due to the lack of support for VHF, this can cause problems and for this reason our admin will not approve their use. If you don't have to worry about that, an antenna is for you. As expected, there is a significant drop in range. I had no problem with it falling apart like some have. As far as comfort goes, that's a great thing. Upgrading from an 8" to a 3" antenna is easy for added convenience. However, the above problem regarding VHF is a big one. Not worth the loss of security/communications.
