Works just as well as an 8 " antenna with a 800MHz trunk system.

Works great I was a bit apprehensive about throwing away the pre-installed antenna as I work in fairly hilly areas and radio reception has always been a bit iffy. I put the little one on, tested it and got the same exact coverage as the original 8 inch antenna! We use 800MHz trunking in the Pacific Northwest. Great upgrade as I wear it on my carrying vest and just don't want to bump into the end of the big ol' antenna anymore!

Pros
  • Single band
Cons
  • Lots of things

Great short GPS antenna 700-800MHz

If your APX radio has a giant foot-length antenna, just unscrew it and replace it with this little thing. This is the real Motorola. Make sure your current antenna is 700-800MHz GPS. If not, then this is not the short version of your antenna. Even if it's a coincidence, KEEP the original antenna in your bitbag. Although this short antenna offers excellent reception, it does not work in dead spots. Most officers I work with have switched to this antenna and don't look back.

Pros
  • Frequency range 764-870MHz
Cons
  • Some little things

Great if you have a cover.

This replaced the longer antenna I was given when our organization upgraded portable radios. The issued antenna was completely impractical because it interfered so much with simple movements. If a long antenna touches your ribs or catches on another device, the radio will move in the mount. He in turn pressed buttons on the front of the radio, which was distracting and annoying because you had to constantly check to make sure the channel or settings hadn't changed. It's not good when you're in…

Pros
  • Stubby
Cons
  • Upgradeable

Not bad BUT: Antennas

So, I originally bought this because I wanted to move my radio to my molle vest and wanted a shorter antenna so it doesn't stick out so close to my face. You have to pay close attention to that and what it is capable of. We have a digital system that works extremely well with it. The standard, I would call it the 8 inch antenna that we have, supports VHF. The short stub antenna is NOT VHF compatible. What this means for us is that while we can communicate normally with our own agency (Municipal
