This replaced the longer antenna I was given when our organization upgraded portable radios. The issued antenna was completely impractical because it interfered so much with simple movements. If a long antenna touches your ribs or catches on another device, the radio will move in the mount. He in turn pressed buttons on the front of the radio, which was distracting and annoying because you had to constantly check to make sure the channel or settings hadn't changed. It's not good when you're in the middle of a conversation. This short version fixes this problem. However, where I work, there is definitely a drop in coverage. I didn't notice any dead zones, but the clarity absolutely suffers. Sometimes when I am inside a building there is so much noise that the transmissions are barely audible. Going back to what I was given wasn't enough for me, but I would recommend anyone switching to this one to keep a long one on hand until you are sure you have cover.
