Review on StarTech Com Internal Multi Card Reader Support by Curtis Richardson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

CFC>on>IDE adapter = removable data medium for old PCs without USB! :)

No USB support on my old IBM PS/1 Consultant, 486-66MHz. My search for removable drives found this! ►NOTE. This rating reflects the StarTech 3.5-inch drive bay. Compact Flash Card - CFC>to>IDE Adapter - 35BAYCF2IDE. Pros: + Free shipping. + Simple plug and play installation. , no drivers are required. + CFC Activity Pass Through – This means that the controller card LED shows CFC activity. + Supplied with power supply splitter cable. to any 40-pin or 44-pin female IDE ribbon cable.+ Advertised - Easy card insertion and removal with integrated eject button Use as boot memory.+ Advertised - Easy-to-use jumpers allow for easy master/slave configuration Available expansion slot . Cons: - $21.79 when I bought one of these which I thought was expensive. - No mounting hardware included. - No IDE ribbon cable. - No LEDs on the board or adapter front. - The print on the manual is very small. - Advertised - Easily swap cards with the built-in button ejector. ◄ DOES NOT support hot-plugging! The computer must be turned off to insert or remove the compact flash card. Information on CFC - CompactFlash cards: ▪ CompactFlash cards are set to two different modes: [1] "Removable Disk Mode"[2] "Fixed Disk Mode" to Fixed Disk Mode. This varies by manufacturer, so it's best to check the mode of the CF card you bought. ▪ A CF card with "Fix Disk Mode" is used as a permanent data medium. Use this card to create fixed partitions, install operating systems, or create a boot disk. ▪ The Windows operating system does not store system files on a removable disk, so it is important to only use CF cards that are set to "Fixed Disk Mode". Final remarks: ▪ Overall I am satisfied with this CFC >to>IDE adapter. ▪ I read that other browsers had problems with the eject button. So far the eject button has worked fine for me.
