For 6 months the drain valve worked quite well, slowed the flow a bit but kept up with the wide open shower. Gone smelling like sewer gas. Coming home after a two-week vacation, there was the smell of sewage! The drain has slowed, causing the water to stagnate two to three minutes after the shower ends. Took it to see and clean it of minimal debris, replace and still do it as slowly as possible. ILLUSION. I hesitated to buy because of the reviews. Our laundry room with shower/toilet smelled of sewage gas in the room. The shower was definitely the culprit. There is a siphon in the shower, but in the winter months, when dry air and drains flow through the boiler room below the drain, after a few days the water evaporates and the waste water is returned. This device stopped the odor period. When I put it on for the first time, the water held it up a little. It seemed to drain better after being used a few times, but some back pressure was still noted. I pushed the device further down the drain to get more water from the top and it's been working fine ever since. Flow isn't as fast as a full 2" drain, but I can live with a small flow restriction. With high pressure and without water-saving deposits in the shower head, however, no significant water collects above the shower drain.
