Review on Genuine Toyota 86300-35111 πŸš— Antenna Assembly: High-Quality and Authentic by Donald Gore

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The only antenna that fits in a 1998-2002 Toyota 4runner

The originally installed antenna eventually spawned and threw itself on my hood. I would buy a standard non-retractable antenna at the local auto parts store, but nothing fits this 4runner. This is because the antenna is placed right on the 'shoulder' of the wing, meaning it doesn't close properly. Shame on Toyota! :) Spending $140 on an OEM antenna is a bit excessive, but other alternatives have almost doubled the price, and I didn't even check the Toyota price, thinking it would be triple. It turned out that paying $140 was the least painful part of the process. Even worse was disassembling half the dashboard. Attempting to fit adult-sized hands into areas designed for small children's hands (sorry little folks, no offense) was downright brutal. To get to the small space you need to remove the glove box and metal bar, unscrew the glove box frame and remove the upper and lower center console (note the switch covers and the small pins for the sunroof switch. Don't lose any of these!), remove the radio. Outer dismantling work consisted of wing lengthening and inner wing weakening. I tied the cable to the antenna cable connector and pulled it out along with the cable (two man job, one outside the truck and one inside, guide wire). On the Toyota build, this wire runs around the components behind the glove box and you can't get it back the same way. So do yourself a favor and tie the rope when the cable runs back to the top corner on the passenger side. . I ended up cutting the rope after I routed the antenna cable to the passenger side of the truck and just routed it before all the crap in the dash and center console area. The antenna worked perfectly, both mechanically and as a way of transmitting radio signals. Just plan to spend most of the day removing the old antenna and installing the new one. I recommend this antenna because it works and fits perfectly and the seller because they have the cheapest OEM antenna.
