Not noisy at all. No louder than my convection heater in my house. I use it non-stop. From time to time he will check the air, count down and stop at whatever level the air is at. They're new to my house and I sneeze from them, so I thought it might be a good idea to try. I can honestly say I noticed a difference on the first day of use. This may seem premature as I was thinking the same thing. But I kept smelling guinea pig hay, but after running around the same room for 6 hours I no longer smelled hay. I wasn't sure I could picture it, so I was curious if I would notice a difference in the morning. In the morning it didn't smell at all anymore and I didn't have to sneeze or sneeze anymore.
