I live in Northern California so earthquakes are part of life. I also have a toddler in the house so it's not really an issue if the painting or paintings will be knocked over (and possibly dropped). it's more a question of WHEN it will happen. These dainty picture hooks are worth every penny for the security they provide. The package contains 4 hangers with two mounting options. A medium nail for small pictures/picture frames and a larger screw/bolt for heavier items. For smaller frames, all you need is a hanger and a drywall nail. There is a "latch" for the wire hook to keep your frames from falling off when squeezed. I doubled for medium frames. For really large or heavy frames, wall studs/screws are the safest option. The instructions are pretty simple and installation is easy. If you plan to mount to a wall stud, you will need a nail finder and a small drill. These hangers require wire on the back of each frame, so it's important to make sure the wire is secure before hanging the frame! Pros: easy installation, reliability, good performance (plastic). Cons: There really aren't any. The hangers are plastic but they are quite thick. If you're planning on rocking your picture frames like Tarzan, then they probably aren't for you. For ordinary people, this is a great option to protect your paintings and photo frames!
