Review on ๐Ÿ›ถ Malone Auto Racks Deluxe Foam Kit for Two SUP Boards by Frank Nguyen

Only as a last resort.

Does the job, although overpriced for what it is. I've used this a few times on a roofless car and quickly discovered the following things: - It's really inconvenient and awkward to use this way and just not practical for frequent use. Especially if you are small/weak and putting the board back in place it's quite difficult - if you're careful not to knock the blocks too far off the board then things get harder. (I'm an average height woman, medium sedan, with a pretty average bulge, with decent upper body strength - and I've had a pretty rough time.) - The foam quickly began to burst around the holes at the ends. . For the price you should spice it up a bit.- The belts running through the car are annoying.- I didn't think about that before buying it, but then I read about the possibility that the belts could interfere with the side airbags and confirmed that this was the case with mine car would actually be the case. - As some people have pointed out, you need to be careful when placing the blocks and not dent the roof. (Despite the fact that I read about it and told my husband about it, he immediately mixed up the blocks, twisted this thing and smashed my roof. Thankfully, it popped up right away.) - If your roof has a big bend and you Blocks set more towards the front and back of the roof (where they dent the roof less easily and provide a wider base for the board), the blocks become angled and have less contact with the board. I decided to glue rubber strips to the bottom of the blocks to keep the top faces flat. It works better, but it's ugly, covers the special underside and probably voids some sort of warranty or something. I really had to be careful to put the straps in the right places to avoid horrible wind noise (which makes it even more tiring to use). It took a few tries and test riders to figure out how to do it right. I chose this one because I thought it would be ok and initially I couldn't find a decent roof rack for my car. . After trying this out, I took a closer look and found the type of trunk that fit my car (which also didn't use things like straps through the car or suction cups). It has become 20 times faster and easier for me to load the board. car and tie her up now, so I'll be doing that a lot more often. I still use foam blocks on the rack since I got them, but if I didn't have them I would buy more streamlined pads. I still use the weight belts from the kit but they are quite long to attach directly to the rack so I can swap them out with the shorter ones I have. Bottom line I think it's ok for very infrequent use or maybe to take it somewhere and use it on another vehicle like a rental car or if you really don't have an alternative. But for me it was a waste of money.
