I have wide feet and I have a hard time finding shoes that don't feel tight in the toe box, even with wide widths. It's not because my feet are very wide, I just think the quality control is bad and we all have unique feet. My feet also get hot in many shoes that are uncomfortable for me. I wear them indoors with socks. I had never walked barefoot before so I was skeptical. Although the material of the sock touches the tips of my toes, it doesn't bother me as it's flexible and breathable. Arch support is good and feels like a regular shoe. They are a bit tight because the opening is limited. I bet if I didn't wear socks they would be perfect. I usually wear a 12 wide and these fit with socks. 12 1/2 could be better. If you don't want to wear socks, you should find your normal size so that it fits well.
