Review on ๐ŸŒก๏ธ Cutting-Edge ERICKHILL Temperature Monitoring System: Real-Time Solution for Greenhouses and Hospitals by Hayden Hart

Lots of UI issues

PROS1. Good ad. I can easily read the CO2 value at night in the bedroom, or the display can be turned off when needed.2. The built-in battery lasted more than 10 hours, which is much better than expected (I haven't officially tested this).3. Based on a comparison with another monitor, accuracy ranges from 50ppm to 2000ppm (typical for this class of monitor) but only at or near sea level (see cons #3 below) CONS1. The battery icon doesn't change when it's getting empty - it's always "full" until the device is powered off (the icon will oscillate while charging) and there's no power off warning. Fortunately, settings and history are stored in non-volatile memory.2. The device appears to have ABC (Auto Base Calibration), but the instructions simply advise "moving the monitor to self-calibrate" with no further details (outside? how often? for how long?), and there's no manual calibration option. This is very bad since ABC is notoriously problematic.3. Like most other consumer CO2 monitors, there is no height adjustment. NDIR sensors are dependent on air pressure - without air pressure compensation they underestimate the CO2 content at high altitudes. At an altitude of 400 meters above sea level, the correction is about +5%. At my altitude (1325 meters) the correction is more than +17%! This is in addition to any inherent sensor baseline errors at sea level.4. The "Trend Graph" screen is useless. The y-axis (C02) is fixed between 0 and 20,000ppm, so for household purposes the trend line stays almost flat and goes to the very bottom of the chart. The x-axis is fixed at 30 seconds (although not marked as such).5. The temperature, relative humidity, and dew point readings are inaccurate, but that's not what I bought it for and it seems typical of this type of monitor.6. The built-in logging functions are almost useless: a) The history screen shows a list of records with timestamps. Scroll down to select the entry you want, shown as it appeared at the time. EXCEPT: The top of the screen will continue to display the current date/time instead of the selected entry's date/time, and historical temperatures will be displayed in Celsius if Fahrenheit is selected for real-time display. I would call it a mistake. b) Even more frustrating, when viewing historical records, you cannot navigate to the next or previous record in the list. The only option is to go back to the live view, which oddly requires 3 clicks on the 'back' button! If you want to view multiple consecutive entries, you must start at the top of the history list each time. For example, if you set the logging interval to 5 minutes and want to review consecutive entries 6 hours before, you need to switch to history mode and then press the down key 72 times to view the first entry and then press enter 3 times to exit, call re-enter history mode and press the 73 key to scroll to the next entry and so on! c) To make matters worse: hold down the up or down button to stop moving the scroll position! Each click moves the cursor one position in the list. If you schedule data logging to start at a specific time (as opposed to continuous logging), the time settings should be increased or decreased one digit at a time. Also, the schedule fields are not flipped, so if the hours and minutes fields are set to 00, the down button is disabled, and if the hours and minutes fields are set to 23 or 59, the Up button is disabled. d) Fortunately, logging software is available to transfer historical records to a computer (this is not mentioned in the instructions; you must request a link). I checked ErickHill for OS compatibility before purchasing (I only have Linux and XP) and was told their software is XP compatible. Turns out that's not the case (later confirmed by Eric Hill), so I can't comment on the usefulness of logging software. Thankfully, Revain has made it easy to return your device for a full refund.
