Review on Convenient USB Volume Control: DROK PC Speaker Audio Remote Knob with Mute Function - Compatible with Win7, 8, 10, XP, Mac, Vista, Android by Matthew Henderson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

It only lights up when the knob is turned! Really nice.

So I looked at various volume controls and really wanted an all metal construction with no backlight. (Sometimes I like dark environments, especially blue LEDs are very distracting) but I had an old plastic volume control from the same company that I really liked. I saw that the screws were visible so I figured I could close or remove the LED fairly easily. Lo and behold the button pops up, I plug it in and find the light only comes on when the volume is changed, also with a nice smooth transition. I don't even need to change anything. Since most of the time it will remain unlit, this is now a really useful feature. The construction is excellent. You can feel the notches on the button when you change the volume. Luckily there is no click. Instead, just what you can feel through your fingers. Since the light comes on when you turn the knob, it also confirms that it should work when you use it. On Windows 10 it started immediately. I was surprised. Talk about plug and play. My only complaint is that the included cable has really really sticky marks on what is a pretty good looking product. Luckily the cable is replaceable (which I think was a really cool move on their part) and I'm replacing it with a simpler solid black cable instead. The price I paid (about $30) is totally worth it. If it ever exceeds $40 I can say I'll skip it. If it ever drops below $20, buy it and I'll buy extras. EDIT: It's been a few weeks. I still like it very much. It baffles me how happy a metal pen can make me.

Pros
  • Very impressive
Cons
  • Can't remember
