Two ethernet/telephone lines over a single cable

UPDATE (05/06/15): The TP-LINK TL-SF1005D 5-Port 10/100Mbps Desktop Switch might be a better choice. It costs $7.40. UPDATE (11/19/2013): I'm still giving it 5 stars, but changing my recommendation from "Highly Recommended" to "ONLY buy it if you really need it". Reason: Switches are now so much cheaper that you no longer have to buy this product at this price. I will only recommend this product if it sells for $8 or less as great switches that work out of the box currently sell for $12. This product is mislabeled - it is not a splitter. It CANNOT make TWO Ethernet lines out of ONE. However, it can carry TWO Ethernet lines over ONE CAT5 cable. An Ethernet line requires 4 wires; 8-wire CAT5 cables reconfigured to run two Ethernet lines instead of one. It's kind of like a double-decker bus made of two buses (so you still need two buses). I have a phone jack and an ethernet jack in my home office. I needed to make 3 ethernet connections (network printer, desktop and NAS) and two phone connections (a fax and a phone) in the room. Accessories like the GE 26191 DUPLEX WALL ADAPTER (WHITE) make it easy to connect multiple phones to the same wall outlet. However, connecting multiple devices to a single Ethernet outlet requires additional work. You can purchase a switch that can convert a single Ethernet connection into multiple Ethernet outlets (4 or 8) using devices such as the NETGEAR GS105 ProSafe 5-Port Gigabit Ethernet Desktop Switch - 10/100/1000 Mbps . I didn't want to buy another switch because it manages all the ethernet sockets in one place. I needed two ethernet outlets on one wall and one on the other wall. I bought two pairs of these. One to receive two ethernet lines from an ethernet socket. And second, to get a phone line and another ethernet line over the phone line (this is done with CAT5e cable). This jig was able to split each line up for me and the whole process is a breeze once you follow the instructions. All in all PLUS: 1. Easy to use and it works.2. It comes with beautiful color-coded strips to attach to its slots for easy line identification.3. Overall good quality. Very satisfied with the performance of the product. QUESTIONS:1. You may need to purchase additional cables/connectors to make it work. Check out the product photos before ordering. It must be supplied with at least a CAT5 connector to be ready to use. It would be nice if there was an option to mount it to a wall plate instead of just using a key hanging on the wall. Highly recommended.
