Review on 🏰 Ravensburger Castles of Burgundy Dice Strategy Game by Ham Channell

Revainrating 3 out of 5

A game of chance with unreliable components

Game: If you like games of chance then this game is for you. Unless. ... and even if so, please read my review. Dice are the main component of this game and there isn't as much strategy as people assume. The gameplay is exactly the same whether you play solo or with 4 players. You can play with 10 players and not change your thought process. There aren't many ways to block other players or anything like that. Even with multiple players, this is a very single player game. The whole strategy revolves around maximizing your dice rolls. This is the European version of Yahtzee! The dice aspect makes it very fun at first (like all dice games) but the single player aspect makes this game very old and very fast. There just isn't enough depth in strategy or interaction between players to make it a top-notch game. If you're hosting a casual game night where you expect everyone to be talking about the game and having fun, then this is the game for you. If you love and are fed up with Settlers of Catan, then this is your game. everything in the design of the game and nothing in the materials. The box is the same as any Alea game, meaning you have to go out and buy plastic bags to pack everything in. When you take the pieces out of the net, they break easily. We have about 20 tiles that are broken. We asked Revane for new tracks. They sent us a brand new game and the same thing happened. And game boards are so thin that if you put them on a slightly damp table, they will go bad! Really no difference to other Alea games. They make phenomenal games, but if you have to buy new parts every year, what's the point?

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • Volume
