I use it to carry groceries to work every day for more than a month. For a hot meal it's just terrible. It will not keep hot or warm food at its temperature for more than an hour, even if the container is in another thermal bag. However, cold foods are excellent for this device. If you're holding a salad or other food that requires low temperatures, this will be amazing. I was even able to keep the ice cubes in the bottom bin cold. I will say if you live in an environment where it's hot all the time or cold all the time, keep it in an insulated bag. I don't think the individual reservoirs are leakproof well, but overall I haven't noticed too many leaks in the outer reservoir. The benefit of individual containers is that they are microwave safe as long as you don't microwave the lids as directed on the lids themselves. If you need something to keep food warm, like soups, rice or whatever, I suggest taking a look at the thermos. This will definitely keep the food hot for about 5 hours before lunch. They make a great addition to this container, which I keep in an insulated bag.
