Completely failed after only 4 days of operation

Arrived 10th September 21. Appears to be well packaged and undamaged. I hooked it up on 9/11/21 and it seemed to work fine until the devices failed 4 days later on 9/15/21. I placed this unit in the foyer of my lower staircase (it replaced another unit that worked fine there and I moved upstairs). From time to time I would hear a loud bang from it, turn around and look and see nothing on the grille. , nothing below and nothing beats near. After two days I noticed an orange ring around the right side of the inferior bulb (instead of bluish purple). This ring began to expand and spread across the onion. In the morning of 09/15/21 I noticed an unpleasant smell of burning coming from the block (not the smell of a burning bug). About 1/4 of the bottom lamp was glowing orange on the bottom lamp, and suddenly the lights went out and only the power button was lit. The unit grille looked perfectly clean and there were only a few small fruit flies and the like in the bottom chute (which didn't appear to have killed/attracted a single moth/gnat or larger insect in the 4 days of operation. I grabbed a multimeter to see , whether the mains was still live. Most of the time it showed nothing with an occasional spike of only 0.07 volts, but it got a normal jerk and discharge from time to time and nothing came back. So if the bulbs are not worked and wetting intermittently at best, and the lingering smell of smoke coming from the unit felt like it had come to an end after a miserable 4 days. The 4 days it worked didn't show any signs of impressive functionality either (although there may have been problems with the reliable power supply from the mains all along and I didn't think to check since it's a new device t traded with 2 normally lit lightbulbs.)

Pros
  • Secure and protective wiring to prevent accidental contact with people or pets
Cons
  • Requires an outlet
