Back to an old friend

I can't even begin to guess how many mice I've used in over 30 years of computing. Up until 2007, I used every mouse that came with the PCs we had at home and at work. Until 2007 we needed (I wanted) a second PC. My wife and daughter were happy with their Dell desktop and HP laptop, so I created my own desktop using an Eclipse II backlit keyboard and MX 518 mouse. I loved this keyboard and mouse. I've made a few upgrades over the years but in 2013 a power surge fried the MBs and I completely rebuilt them. I continued to use the Eclipse keyboard, but until then the 518 was a little disappointed. I replaced the original 518 with a G400 but it was junk and didn't last long. I pulled my 518 from storage, disassembled it, cleaned it as best I could and lived for a few more years. After a restoration at the end of 2019 I gave up my original 518. Disappointed with the cheap Redragon mouse and the $60+ Corsair M65 mouse whose left button didn't last a year, I ordered a new MX 518. I wish Logitech had the silver back. the crumpled look of an old mouse, but the shape has always been the perfect mouse for my hand. As for the Eclipse II keyboard, after 11 years I've finally given up on it in favor of a brown Redragon K556 switch. No regret. I love the K556 even more than the Eclipse.

Cons
  • Not as good as it says
