Silicone is a great way to make things heat resistant. I've even had textured silicone oven mitts in the past, but they were awkward to use for anything more than the basic "grip" as they were quite thick and much larger than my hands. However, these gloves are VERY different. They are a soft, spongy cloth glove that is then dipped in a clear silicone coating. The result is a thinner but still VERY heat resistant and very snug fitting glove. (Be sure to check the size chart to choose the size that works best for your hands.) I can easily take smaller pans out of the oven while carrying them. My daughter also tried them when she was making toffee (candy that needs to be "pulled out" of the cooked sugarpaste while it's still quite hot to take in air and make the candy chewy).
