I connected this directly to the 36v electric bike motor power supply from the battery. I turn it on and off with the key. I mainly use it for daytime security, but it's strong at night. Very, very bright. I have two bikes and sometimes my wife falls behind. It used to be difficult to see them in my rear view, but with this beast I can easily see them at 300 yards in the bright Florida sun!. I really like this light. I mounted it on a triple clamp so it bounces up and down a lot. So far it has failed but still works fine. I bought a second one and mounted it on my bike. We ride 4-5 times a week for an hour. Some people have mentioned a loose power wire connection on the circuit board, so I first took my lights apart to see if it was tight. It looks like the manufacturer was listening as the connection to the board was well secured with silicone glue over the solder joint. While disassembling it, I smeared silicone grease on the threads and the surface of the body where the lens attaches. A little more waterproofing wouldn't hurt. Heck, even if it lasts a year I'll happily buy a replacement. The powerful high-voltage headlights for e-bikes from the foo foo brand cost 10 to 20 times as much.
