We live in a suburb in the Vancouver mountains. Below us is a 30-acre gorge. Black bear families keep coming down the mountain, along the canyon and into our backyard. They sniff around looking for snacks. Last week four of them walked around the trampoline, up the stairs to my lower deck and straight to the back door with the window while we all ate lunch. On CCTV footage I see one of the boys looking at me through the glass and I have no idea it was there in the dark just 2ft from me. So I figured it would be better to come up with a detection method so one day someone doesn't walk out the back door and fall into the bear's lap. I bought 2 detector sets - one with 2 detectors and 1 receiver and the other with 1 detector and 1 receiver. I installed 3 detectors in the yard to warn me of bears coming from behind. We also have deer, owls, porcupines and skunks, but I don't know yet if smaller animals will be installing detectors. An added bonus is that the system also alerts me to a tramp in my yard. But I noticed that the two kittens don't talk to each other. I called support. Apparently I had "a new kit and an old kit and they don't work together". Therefore, the support team immediately sent me a replacement kit with 2 sensors and 1 receiver. Now everything works as expected and we hear signals on both receivers when there is movement on one of the 3 detectors from behind. I had the impression that these devices are of higher quality than expected. The plastic body is strong and durable, and the devices are well designed. The detection seems reliable and the resulting one works fine.
