When you place an item on top, the numbers jump up to the weight range and then slowly count up. Five grams of ground coffee weighs 10 grams if you leave it on the scale long enough. I also tried pouring coffee onto the scale and the weight came off quickly as I poured the liquid into the Chemex with the weight number going negative. It made no sense. Even if you turn it on, sometimes the weight value doesn't even stay at 0.0; it increases even if nothing is put on the scales. Finally, I tried to weigh things that I know the weight of and the number was inaccurate. For example, an unopened 12-ounce bag of coffee weighed 5 ounces on the scale. I looked at other 1 star reviews and their experience was exactly the same as mine. Too bad I didn't buy this scale because I wasted my time trying to figure it out. i will return it
