I have a project that will require about 1000 stainless steel rivets in a few years (replacing 5/4 cedar boards on an aluminum framed dock). You will need about a dozen. It worked great for the first 25 rivets, slowed down for the next 25, and was completely useless by 75. I'm not sure how they work exactly, but it seems like it's slipping the rivet's steel shank. aluminum sleeve in such a way that it always catches the shaft in the same place. If I pulled on it before releasing the handle, the sleeve would stretch as well. This tool replaced a similar tool I bought from Menard's that suffered the same fate. Perhaps the jaws were worn, but there was no sign of slipping on the shanks of the cut rivets. A call to Astro offered to make an adjustment, but this only improved it by about five notches, after which it returned to unsatisfactory performance.
