I purchased this reel on a calculated play not really knowing the accuracy of the widely varying gap widths and depths offered by previous buyers. I thought that with such a cheap price you can take a little risk. As it turns out the spool is absolutely perfect for my application as it carefully coils and stores 1/8" x 500 ft of 750 lb test gauge blue paracord that I use to fly a 30 sq ft parafoil kite. This spool is original Designed for extensions and not paracord, it took me about 30 minutes with an Xacto blade to cut and carefully remove the extension fork retaining hook molded into the bottom of the spool flange, "leaving more than 1" space around Leaving the rim of the reel 2 small drops of synthetic grease in the space on either side between the black hub grip and the rotating orange part of the reel and around the black grip further contributes to a very smooth reel rotation without any sticks or sticks! Love this The reel is so strong that there are no metal parts For flying kites In all weather conditions and on the beach it is basically child's play AAA+. Woods E-102 Rules! Incidentally, the actual dimensions of the gap are 2 5/8 inches wide and 2 5/8 inches deep. Tip: Actual storage capacity may be misleading based on previous reviews from other buyers. The reel is about 10.5 inches in diameter, however the grip portion of the center hub is over 4.5 inches of that size.
