Decent Spanish-made tool, though.

The price immediately shows that this is not a cheap Chinese fake, but it is not an American one either; it is made in Spain. With all the EU labor rules it's hard to see why it would be cheaper for Channelock to import wrenches from Spain than to produce them here, but it is. Overall it's a well made tool, although certainly not as good as my old 50-75 year old handyman wrenches. The machined surfaces aren't as smooth (although they're much better than cheap Chinese instruments), the casting surfaces are a bit rough, and the jaws aren't quite parallel. There is one more interesting feature. The movable jaw can be reversed by engaging the serrated surface so that it can be used as a pipe wrench. But there is a serious problem with that. I was taught that an adjustable wrench, whether half or tubular, should always be turned toward the moving jaw. This forces the jaw into the instrument and transfers the stress to the non-moving jaw where it is greatest. Twisting it the other way pulls the jaw away from the instrument and stresses the weakest part of the instrument. When using this wrench as a pipe wrench, it will not compress when you pull towards the moving jaw, only when you pull in the opposite direction. That makes it unprofitable for me. As a pipe wrench, I would only use them in an emergency. As an adjustable end wrench, it's well made, if not on par with the best American wrenches (or the best European ones, I think). Key). It's certainly a lot better than the typical Chinese wrench that sells for half the price or less. But if I was looking for a quality adjustable socket that wouldn't break when I needed it, I'd look for an old Craftsman on sale, and if I couldn't find it, I'd buy a snap-on. . Snap-on keys cost around 20-30% more than Spanish made channellocks and are more than worth the money. They're made in the USA, guaranteed for life and won't break.
