Review on πŸ”΄ Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Folio for iPad 5 in Striking Mars Red Orange: A Perfect Blend of Style and Functionality by Tony Basler

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Mostly good with very few bugs/comments

I'll start with the cons (they are minor). Possibly 2:1. The A/Q keys are duplicated as CAPS LOCK/TAB keys, you need to press the FN key to enable CAPS LOCK/TAB for A/Q. You get used to it, but as others have said, you tend to put your hands on the right 1 key because you expect the keys to be on the outside of your left pinky. With this key, your little finger rests on the outermost key. So it takes time to set up. ***A NOTICE. The full-size iPads and iPad Airs have many KB variants that don't have left-side combo keys like this one, but can eventually remap the keys. right to save space. So make sure you know the EXACT kb configuration before you buy any kb - it directly affects your enjoyment of the product! 2. The tome is not a full protective case as it does not close with a zipper or similar. So there is some exposure around the edges around the iPad Air. However, not many devices come with a full zip, so it's no worse than most tomes. NOW GOOD1. The "smart on/off" of most Bluetooth keyboards has a catch that most don't realize or talk about - which is why I threw away my previous KB in favor of buying this one. Smart kb uses magnetic detection to turn the iPad on and off, and kb means kb is always on when you have the screen open - EVEN IF YOU'RE JUST USING IT AS A VIDEO STAND! OR READ! In other words. my kb on a smart bluetooth k/b kept me on the drain even though i did NOT use it but used the tome more as a stand so i didn't have to hold the ipad for hours to watch a movie! This tome is different and offers a keyboard ON/OFF switch - which is MUCH better! This allows you to turn the k/b on and off exactly when you need it without draining the battery (so it lasts a full week on a single charge, if not more). It also provides instant control/feedback when kb connects/disconnects to your iPad. My previous Smart KB/Folio was constantly on and trying to connect, but it was never clear when it was or not, and it was having problems (or timing out). So most of the time it was unpredictable when kb would connect/work and when not. I often even had to go into SETTINGS > BLUETOOTH and unplug kb to plug it back in for it to work. What does smart on / off mean then? Great design to fold back the screen for 'use in tablet mode' when reading or watching videos and don't need kb (of course you don't have a stand to support the screen but most do). I was also intrigued by another Logitech product that is the same, except the keyboard is more like a "sleeve". But I chose this kb3 ON/OFF switch b/c. KB works great. The Bluetooth connection is reliable and fast. KB charge lasts LONG! KB has its own power supply/memory so it doesn't drain the iPad battery. I liked this KB on my iPad Mini (but Deicded Mini isn't the best choice if you're typing). I like it now on the iPad Air. If you don't confuse the combo Fn keys (only 2), this is the KB/folio you need. If you need separate CAPS/TAB keys, you should look elsewhere.
