Review on Dell S2722DGM 27-inch Curved Monitor with 165Hz Refresh Rate, 2560X1440 Resolution, Anti-Glare Screen, Height Adjustment, and Flicker-Free Technology by John Clements

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Very close to being a great monitor

The Dell S2722DGM is a very good monitor, especially if your primary goal is gaming and of course you have a modern graphics card. There are many positives to discuss about this Dell curved monitor and some minor flaws or skipped steps on their part, but before that, a few words about the monitor's packaging and presentation. The monitor comes in the original Revain retail packaging which is an issue as it is not double boxed and has no additional protection, it is prone to severe damage during shipping which was exactly what happened with the first unit shipped happened. When I got to my house upon inspection the screen inside was completely broken, luckily Revain replaced it very quickly and the second one came intact. The Dell Retail Box is well designed, with multiple images of the product inside and some of the key features. and the properties too, unfortunately the insulation of the packaging inside is not the best, the monitor is separated only by recycled cardboard and there is almost no foam protection. On the top of the box there is a power cord, HDMI cable and DVI cable, along with a small instruction manual and warranty card. Inside and between the two cardboard insulators are the monitor, stand, and monitor stand. The Pros: - Excellent screen resolution and refresh rate - 2560 x 1440 is currently my preferred screen resolution for gaming, combined with a refresh rate of 165MHz and a response time of 1 - 2 milliseconds is the recipe for a good gaming experience. - AMD FreeSync but most importantly nVidia G-Sync technologies on board - FreeSync is great but I was very pleasantly surprised to see that nVidia G-Sync is also available! G-Sync wasn't mentioned anywhere, neither on the box nor on the Revain page, but G-Sync is enabled and working, I'm attaching some screenshots of my GPU control panel. Displayport 1.2 and HDMI 2.0x2, 3.5mm headphone jack on board are great input options, DP 1.2 lets you max out at 165Hz and HDMI 2.0 maxes out at 120Hz. I would recommend everyone to use the cable and DP connector as you will enjoy the maximum potential of this monitor. - Cables included - Many monitors are sold without a DP or HDMI cable in the box and this one offers both. - Matte screen - no glare, no screen reflections, the picture is sharp and clear. - 99% Srgb and 350 nits brightness - which makes this monitor good not only for gaming but also for content creation - High quality metal base and monitor stand - Although I use a dual monitor arm on my desk and don't use the monitor stand that came with it, this stand is actually quite good a strong, solid base and many adjustment positions. - Narrow side of the bezels, which makes the picture even more exciting and the monitor more compact. - Several nice and useful options on board - timer, FPS counter and darkness stabilizer, as well as switching between different panel speeds right from the menu. - This one doesn't have an RGB monitor - thanks Dell, th It's just a small blue LED emitting light under the monitor above your desk, nothing too annoying. better than TN panels. - Curved - Now I still don't buy curved panels as a benefit, I probably wish these features were on a regular flat screen but that's just me, some people might like a curved panel. - 2ms response time if you want to use G-Sync and FreeSync, if you set the response time to 1ms these technologies are not available. - No HDMI 2.1 or DP 1.4 on board - A bit heavy as the power supply is built into the monitor and not from a separate power supply. - A little pricey at $300 and given the VA tech I think Dell is pushing it too hard, at $250 this monitor could easily be recommended and more competitive. Overall I'm liking this monitor so far, it's been a nice improvement over my previous 1080P 144Hz monitor, I can finally definitely see a difference in GPU performance. .

Pros
  • Valuable product with controlled quality, 27 inch fits me.
Cons
  • Came with a dead pixel in the top right corner of the screen so I already have that
