For reference I have two young children who get quite a bit of stains on their clothes. For example, washable markers/paints and foods such as yogurt, pizza sauce, hummus, syrup, etc., as well as classic dirty outdoor games. I usually pre-treat their clothes with dish soap or stain remover before washing them. To escape this tedious process, I tried skipping the preprocessing and booting with it first. I got the idea that prewashing could get rid of most of the goo, especially the easily dissolving stuff like yogurt, and lighten everything else up enough to save me time cleaning up the rest. Overall, I didn't think that really applied to our situation. This process works best when you wash warm and have fewer items in the washing machine, although I was surprised it didn't wash out. We live in a city and pay per load and have less control over temperature and load types than many of the more versatile machines people have in their homes these days. I think they will work much better in this environment and for those with less intense stains. They don't work well for my current situation, but I think they will work for others, so I'll rate them accordingly. I love how they compare to other big brands and would choose this over others.
