Great head unit……….dash pieces are garbage!

First off a little background on myself. I turned wrenches for 7 years as a line technician in a dealership and have a very diverse mechanical background. I did my research on this and looked at the reviews, many positive and several complaining about lack of instructions and quality of the fit and finish. Well, I took a chance and now I am paying the price. The head unit is very responsive and of good quality. Love the features it has and for the most part the unit is self explanatory to wire it up, this however is the only thing about this kit that is quality. The replacement dash pieces are very poor quality and they just don’t fit the contour of the Jeep. The driver side replacement piece was so bad that I ended up cutting my original dash and using the supplied center piece that the head unit attaches to. Now that the drivers side is correct I went to install the head unit attached to the supplied dash replacement. First thing I noticed is the very cheap top tray mounting tabs that are supposed to guide the tray into the dash frame. Second thing is while applying gentle pressure to the frame to click into the anchor points I hear the dreaded snap of plastic, yup 2of the tabs snap off. I continued on and finally get the head unit installed into its mount, now to marry it up with the provided new tray that I mentioned earlier. You have to have the tray sitting in place before you install the head unit. Well got everything finally installed and now fort the test. Everything about this head unit is fantastic but that is where the fantastic part ends. I get everything set up, car play is working great , cell phone synced and now to pull it around to my parking spot. Well, I hit a bump and the top of the unit and tray fall forward about 2 inches. The only thing holding this thing in is a couple of the tabs and the screw behind the window controls. I am at a point that I will have to fabricate and modify this thing to get it functioning and secured so I don’t loose it when I off-road. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra money and buy a name brand kit. I would return it but I am to far involved.

Pros
  • The stereo offers plug-and-play compatibility, requiring no additional software or drivers to enjoy full functionality.
Cons
  • The display might be too small for some people's liking
