Initially, the SSD got very hot on the first few boots. After the first 2 weeks of use, the temperature dropped significantly; to nothing. Edit: There is a list of identical Transcend 512GB 42mm SSDs for less than $90 here at Amazon. I can't vouch for the quality or reliability of this other list, but it's there. Just an additional note: For those who don't mind carrying around an external drive, the Samsung T5 1TB USB-C External Drive is now under $180.
