Yes, you need to put the load on a stand to keep it from tipping over. But the holder lets you see what you're doing - it doesn't block the camera on the back of the phone, unlike the other stand I bought. It's perfect for what I need to do - take photos from above and videos where I explain some of the manufacturing steps. The value for money is incredible. I had to put a stand on top of a big, thick book to get the right height, but that's irrelevant: it works, won't empty my bank account, and that's exactly what I need. Hooray!
