Filter socks without the hassle of cleaning

I'm new to this hobby so I don't claim to know all the benefits of filter socks etc. Also, I only used filter socks for a limited period of time which was limited mesh type filter socks. Also, I have to admit that when deciding whether or not to use filter socks, I was very much against constantly cleaning the filter socks. With that in mind, here's my take on these disposable filter socks. First, over the past few months I've made the decision to use filter yarn instead of socks. In my experience, dental floss satisfies my need not to brush, but since the available surface area was small, it quickly clogged. They also seemed to let a lot of dirt through (compared to other mechanical filtering methods. Overall I was happy with the solution compared to cleaning socks with a filter. When I saw this product I decided to give it a try and I was pleasantly surprised. Firstly, this product is superior in terms of filtration compared to filter yarn. Definitely filters more than filter yarn (at least the yarn I used). Then there was time between overflow. Again. These disposable socks win. Thanks to the extra surface area, they clog not as fast as dental floss. They expand and puff up with use, exposing more surface area, which "extends" the life of the sock.I use 4 days a day more than dental floss for me it's perfect and about as long as I'd like even if it's not clogged I'm so happy with this product I'm about to buy a second set of Fla nsche for an even faster sock change. This allows me to have a new kit ready for each shift. There is a big gap in my review of how they compare to fleece filter socks. The truth is I don't know. I haven't used fleece and never plan to because I didn't want to clean it. Also, I would like to point out that my current bioburden is relatively low, I don't overfeed and only have 9 fish in my 90 gallon display.

Pros
  • Absolutely brilliant!
Cons
  • Not everything fits
