Review on πŸ’» Samsung S70A Borderless TUV-Certified 4K Monitor with High Dynamic Range, Blue Light Filter, Wall-Mountable LS32A700NWNXZA by Cameron Harris

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Nice but needs some work.

Very fast - there is a dead/stuck pixel and the configuration is not very good. Mediocre for gaming, great for performance. I will detail all of this below. There's a tiny brown imperfection in the top left corner that looks (to me at least) like a dead pixel or two. It could be a manufacturing defect, I honestly can't tell, and it's in the part of the monitor I'm not looking at. I'd rather skip that than go through the RMA process. I found the monitor exceptionally dark out of the box. To the point where I honestly thought it was broken. I cranked the brightness all the way up, but it was still insanely dark, especially compared to the monitors I had on either side (both had 50 and 75 percent brightness). I googled a bit and found that there is a setting (something like "Ambient Light Adjustment") that basically causes the monitor to adjust its brightness based on the environment. This setting does a pathetic job of knowing what works and what doesn't, and the monitor improved slightly once I found it and turned it off. Still a little underpowered in normal use, but HDR makes up for it. For gaming purposes, 60fps is not ideal if you are interested in esports or racing. High frame rates are everything, and this monitor doesn't deliver them. Not that it matters, as 4K is hard enough to drive at 60fps, let alone anything higher. For reference, my 2070 Super can't handle some games, especially newer ones. I know it's not a top card, but it's not weak either. I will say that even with patchy frame rates, HDR enabled games are still a sight to behold. If you can live with 60fps and have a card powerful enough, it's a good experience. But that might not suit everyone. In terms of performance, this is a large monitor with a high pixel density. It's great to have 3 or 4 documents and switch between them, and the picture-in-picture feature is really cool if you're using two devices on the same desk. I can't speak to the professional-level color accuracy, but if you're one of those customers, you probably don't need my advice on that. That's nice. It is colorful. And it looks a hell of a lot better than my old ASUS 1440p TN panel.
