Lower thread - torn immediately

An amateur quilter following online tutorials to make his first quilt. I bought it because according to the instructions, that's the size to use. As I said, this was my first time so I'm adding a star for possible user error. But after breaking three out of five within the first hour I just switched to a regular sewing needle on my machine and to be honest I didn't notice any difference in the finished quilt. For me it was a waste of money.
