When the box arrived, it was very well-packed. The envelopes containing cords and antennae had easy-open tape seals. There weren't bothersome bits of Styrofoam flying around. It was easy to assemble the unit, and the quick-start instructions got me going fast. Any worries I had about the sound quality dissolved when my Santana disc started playing. It sounds great! The unit is plenty loud for foreground music in a room. The CD tray opens and closes smoothly without hesitation. The buttons and dials are solid and clearly labeled. The LED display is bright and readable. There are sound and recording adjustments that I've never heard of, but I'm sure when I crack open the illustrated manual it will all make sense. (I'm glad to have a unit that's smarter than I am.) I haven't bought TEAC since the 1970's days of stereo components. Gone are the solid wood cases. This new unit has the plastic of the new millennium, but it's heartening to find that there is still quality inside. If you want a simple-to-operate, versatile, compact unit that plays albums, cassettes and CDs, and that records albums and cassettes onto CDs, this TEAC LP-R550USB unit will not disappoint.
